Making Circumstances: Turning Dreams Into Homes in Africa
Imagine a society where millions of families wake up every day in homes that don’t truly protect them—unstable structures that leave them vulnerable to harsh weather, illness, and insecurity.
Imagine a society where millions of young people, work hard day in and out, yet they can’t afford a stable house, in a community that has the basic infrastructure.
Well, you don’t need to imagine, ’cause this is my reality, this is the reality of millions of people in Sub-Saharan Africa. Growing up in one of the poorest municipalities of Luanda, this reality amazes me, sometimes keeps me awake at night, but it also drives me forward.
This is why I created the African Mega-Cities Initiative (AMCI)—a vision for change. While AMCI is not yet fully operational, it represents a bold idea: to make affordable, sustainable housing a reality for millions of young Africans. As someone driven by the motto “making circumstances”, I believe we don’t wait for perfect conditions; we create them.
The Housing Crisis: Why Action Is Urgent
Rapid urbanization is a very common factor, among various cities in Africa, therefore creating a housing crisis. Cities are growing faster than infrastructure can keep up, and over 200 million people are left behind, living in unsafe and inadequate conditions.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, this includes housing. I firmly believe that housing is more than just a roof over your head. It’s the foundation for health, education, and opportunity. Without stable homes, families struggle to escape poverty, children lose the chance to learn, and communities remain stuck in cycles of instability.
The urgency of this problem sits in the current numbers and the projections for the next years. Africa holds a very young population whose median age is below 20 years, with a high fertility rate. So the situation is set to get worse unless we take action. This is the reason why AMCI is designed to address this problem —one step at a time.
The Vision for AMCI
While we’re in the early stages, AMCI’s mission is clear: to provide affordable housing solutions tailored to sub-Saharan Africa’s unique challenges. Here’s how we aim to make it happen:
1. Sustainable Housing Models:
AMCI will develop eco-friendly, affordable, and adapted homes for local needs. These aren’t just houses—they’re spaces where families can thrive.

We plan to leverage the attributes of blockchain technology (cryptocurrencies) to ensure that, anyone, anywhere, can contribute with whatever amount they can to mitigate this problem.
3. Empowering Local Communities:
Our future initiatives and projects will prioritize hiring and training local workers, creating jobs, and building skills within the communities we aim to support.

While AMCI is still fundraising, we committed to exploring the most effective and creative ways to bring in support—from crowdfunding to forming strategic partnerships with individuals, companies, and institutions.
